Summer in Ireland officially began on May 1st; wishful thinking for sunny skies and warm weather have been quickly dashed by scattered showers, cool spring/fall-like weather, with sunny days few and far between. Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit; we do have our sunny days, but memories of amazing Seattle days, those of you who live there, know exactly what I'm talking about...are now exactly that, memories.
We enjoyed an incredible holiday weekend in Dubrovnik, Croatia; it was exactly what we needed to soak in much needed vitamin D rays. Croatia is gorgeous; the pictures do not do its justice, but think Mediterranean, bluest of the blue waters, sun, palm trees, ice cream everywhere, and old, white limestone buildings lining up the streets. It was a belated birthday weekend for me; what a great way to ring in my 32nd year of life! :) The people are friendly, but some of the older generation folks can be a bit 'rougher around the edges'; it takes them a little longer to warm up. We ventured to 2 different islands surrounding Dubrovnik--Lokrum and Korcula; both different and beautiful in its own way. Dubrovnik is the perfect weekend getaway as there's not loads to do, but just enough to see and do in 3-4 days.
Summer in Ireland also brings more football games for Brian and more visitors!
Brian's team, the Dublin Rebels have been cruising their way to hopefully a Shamrock Bowl victory in August. Their record is now 4-0-1; Brian continues to play all over the field; his latest stint is as quarterback. The last game he threw for 1 touchdown and ran for a TD. The Feder family (minus Kevin) recently spent a week with us; we had a wonderful time roadtripping Ireland and visiting places we haven't even seen yet. This trip marked my parents' first European holiday and hopefully there'll be more to come. We covered Kilkenny (our favourite town), Kinsale, Blarney, Galway, and saw the Cliffs of Moher. The weather was great for the first 3-4 days, but then the rain and winds kicked in the last leg of their trip. We miss them already! We are gearing up for my grandparents' visit on the 21st May; we'll be joining them for 5 days of touring other parts of Ireland--Aran Islands and Connemara.
A BIG Happy Birthday shout out to my brother, Kevin--26 years old; we hope this marks the beginning of a great year ahead for you!
We hope everyone is enjoying what warmer weather has to bring--BBQs, boat rides on the Sound, get-togethers, parties, walks, zoo trips, happy hour outside, Aqua Verde, and whatever else suits you.
