March 2009 brought St. Patrick's Day, good friends, great company, wonderful memories, and a fun roadtrip throughout Ireland.
Leann and Melanie arrived on the 10th March and stayed until the 26th March; we really enjoyed their visit...I took off 3 days of work and enjoyed a 6-day Ireland roadtrip with them. We started our journey in Kilkenny, drove to Cork, Kinsale, Dingle Peninsula, Galway, and back to Dublin. Throughout our journey we awed at the 40 shades of green across the hills, the sheep in the fields, the vast Atlantic Ocean, the small town pubs, traditional Irish music, and drank our fair share of Guinness and Gin & Tonics (did you know that Cork makes their own gin).
St. Paddy's day is an actual holiday in Ireland which equates to A DAY OFF WORK! We arrived back to Dublin in time for St. Paddy's day (and Leann's birthday)...the day started off with homemade banana pancakes with blueberries and grapes and then we ventured off into the crowds to watch the reknowned St. Patrick's day parade. In all honesty, the parade seemed to us, just like another parade, nothing spectacular or special about it. After the parade, we returned home to rest up for the evening out and celebrated Leann's birthday with some homemade Banoffee Pie. We discovered Banoffee Pie in Cork...a delicious combination of banana and toffee on a graham cracker crust topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
The pubs that evening were packed with locals and tourists alike, but apparently the 'real' chaos was the evening before...we were only just getting a flavor of what an evening out during St. Paddy's day was like.
Having good girlfriends visit was such a gift...good conversations, laughs, and memories are irreplaceable.
