At the moment, we are enjoying mild winter temps with blue skies, but...
as you know, we recently experienced several days of freezing temps, ice, and snow; shortly after the worst days, there was a sudden rise in temps causing everything to melt quickly...with heavy rain mixed with melting slush and snow has caused flooding in the southern part of the country.
The latest issue in Ireland is the concern over decreasing levels of water in the reservoir, thus reducing the water supply to homes. Fortunately, we haven't been affected, but I know people who are currently without water or with low-pressure water in their home. Ireland's water system is in need of a huge update; here's a quote from the Irish Independent:
"There has been a total lack of investment in our water system," he said. "The recent big freeze put serious pressure on the water system. The region needs much greater water treatment capacity and a number of new holding reservoirs."
