Winter in Dublin 2010

Ireland is experiencing one of its coldest and iciest winters yet...coldest temps since 1979 and the country is literally at a standstill. Children have not returned to school from their Christmas break yet and the Government just announced that all schools will be closed until the 14th January (original return date was the 7th). Public buses have either reduced their routes or completely stopped some of them due to dangerous roads. Salt is in very limited supply and are being used to cover the main roads, but most are using them on one side of the road, so the other side is still very icy. Most sidewalks are covered in ice...snow plows are few and far in between. My work called a snow day last Thursday and Friday, and there's more snow and negative temps to come tomorrow and Monday. Today, the Dublin Airport is actually CLOSED. Unfortunately, I don't always have my camera around to take pics, but here are some pics taken last night...the people you see in the pictures actually have ice skates on and are skating on the roads.
