Coming from a non-religious family with 1 cultural Jew parent (me) and 1 whatever goes parent (Brian), Brennan is in for a cultural upbringing...we hope to raise him with the idea that our families celebrate some of the same holidays and some different ones, teach him about why we celebrate the holidays, and then make them our own. After a conversation with my sister, we talked about Easter and about raising children with such holidays and how to explain it to them without the religious context. We talked about Easter and Spring and with that comes new beginnings...new blooms, new vegetation, an air of relief that the cold of the Winter is behind us, etc. and how that could be a way to celebrate...so, with that we celebrate new beginnings of what lies ahead for our family.
It was another gorgeous day here and as you can imagine, plenty of things to do in Dublin for Easter. We opted to head to Phoenix Park to Farmleigh (about 5-6 miles walk round trip from our place); Brian's still talking about how far that was. :) We brought our picnic blanket, the farmers market was out, music was playing, families and children everywhere, horses and cows could be seen, and there was even a special area for falcons, owls, and hawks. Brennan enjoyed the day as much as we did!
